Yaara Zisman-Ilani is an Associate Professor in the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Temple University's College of Public Health, with a joint appointment in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine. She also holds an honorary associate professorship at University College London (UCL), Division of Psychology and Language Sciences. She is the director of the Shared Decision Making Laboratory, which fosters interdisciplinary research and training in shared decision making and person-centered care.

Her research focuses on shared decision making, health communication, person-centered care, co-production methods, and mental health services, with a strong emphasis on reducing health disparities and addressing the Social Determinants of Mental Health (SDoMH). She specializes in mixed methods, comparative evaluation, and systematic reviews. Her work has been funded by NIH, PCORI, Rothschild Foundation, and Wolf Foundation.
Her recent publications span high-impact journals such as JAMA Psychiatry, Lancet Psychiatry, Psychiatric Services, and BMJ Open. The articles reflect a consistent focus on mental health communication, decision-making tools, equity, and patient engagement across diverse populations, including Black Americans, individuals with psychosis, and those with comorbid conditions. Key themes include shared decision making in antipsychotic prescribing, digital health inclusion, and stigma reduction.
She is a member of the PCORI Advisory Panel on Clinical Effectiveness and Decision Science (CEDS) and has contributed to national and international discourse on mental health policy and research.

Her leadership in the Virtual Community Engagement Studio (V-CES) and other participatory research initiatives highlights her commitment to community engagement and co-production in behavioral health research.
