Vittorio Boffa is an Associate Professor at the Department of Chemistry and Bioscience, Aalborg University, within The Faculty of Engineering and Science. He specializes in membrane technologies, particularly in photocatalytic and thermocatalytic membranes for water purification, nanofiltration, and sustainable materials. His research integrates advanced materials like graphene oxide, MOFs, and perovskites with membrane engineering to address industrial and environmental challenges.
Key research interests include developing energy-efficient membranes for water treatment, photocatalytic degradation of pollutants, and synergistic integration of catalytic processes with membrane systems. He leads projects funded by EU Horizon and industry partners, focusing on antimicrobial food packaging, desalination, and wastewater recycling. Collaborations span institutions globally, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to environmental sustainability.
His 129 publications and 22 ongoing projects highlight contributions to membrane distillation, nanocomposite design, and circular economy applications. Notable work includes thermocatalytic ceramic membranes and MXene-based photocatalysts. Awards and media recognition include coverage in Forskningskroner and Navnenyt. He supervises 7 PhD students, mentoring research on topics like graphene-based membranes and MOF-functionalized materials.
