Vito Conte is a tenure-track Assistant Professor at the Biomedical Engineering department of Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) and a junior group leader at the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) in Barcelona. His research focuses on the interdisciplinary interface between biology, physics, and engineering, particularly on mechanical biology and biological mechanics of development and disease in living tissues. He has held prestigious fellowships, including Juan-de-la-Cierva and Ramon-y-Cajal, and contributes to Sustainable Development Goals through mechanobiology research.
- PhD in Biomechanical Engineering, King's College London
- MPhys in Theoretical Physics, University of Naples Federico II
His work explores mechanical homeostasis, vimentin function, and tissue physics in tumor growth and cardiovascular regeneration. Publications highlight angiogenesis mechanics, actin stress fiber quantification, and RAS oncogene effects on epithelial morphology.
Scientific Awards:
- Juan-de-la-Cierva Fellow (2013)
- Ramon-y-Cajal Fellow (2016)
- EMJMD Grant (619819)
Vito leads the Mechanics of Development and Disease group at IBEC and collaborates with TU/e's Cell-Matrix Interactions for Cardiovascular Tissue Regeneration unit. His research combines in vivo, in vitro, and in silico methods to address cellular and tissue-level mechanical responses.
