Professor Vito Breda is a Visiting Fellow at the ANU Centre for European Studies, affiliated with the ANU College of Arts & Social Sciences. He holds a Doctor in Philosophy from the University of Edinburgh (2005) and is a qualified legal scholar with expertise in Comparative Law, Constitutional Law, and Judicial Objectivity. His academic career includes roles as Senior Lecturer at the University of Southern Queensland (2014–present), Lecturer at Cardiff University (2004–2013), and Legal Researcher at the Scottish Parliament (2002–2004).

Research Interests: Breda’s work focuses on constitutional identities, judicial objectivity, secularism, and regional legal frameworks. His recent projects include analyses of the UK Supreme Court’s jurisprudence, the Scottish independence referendum, and the accommodation of religious practices within secular states. He has authored or edited books on topics such as legal transplants in East Asia and Oceania and constitutional negotiations in regionalist contexts.

- Co-investigator on the Australian National University’s Higher Education Participation and Partnerships Program (2017–2020)
- Contributor to the European Commission’s Erasmus+ Programme (2009–2013)
- Organized international conferences on constitutional decentralization and identity claims
Labs/Teams: Research Leader of the Comparative Law Group at the University of Southern Queensland and Co-manager of the Applied Philosophy and Public Ethics group (8,500+ members).
