Vishnu Mohan

Dr. Vishnu Mohan is a Professor and Vice-Chair for Education in the Department of Medical Informatics and Clinical Epidemiology (DMICE) at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU). He holds dual appointments in DMICE and General Internal Medicine, with expertise spanning clinical informatics, medical education, and patient safety. Dr. Mohan directs OHSU's clinical informatics fellowship program and the DMICE graduate program, offering advanced training in Health and Clinical Informatics (HCIN) and Bioinformatics and Computational Biomedicine (BCB). His leadership roles include overseeing curricula development supported by major grants from the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC).

Education: Dr. Mohan completed his medical degree, residency in internal medicine, and informatics training at OHSU. He earned a graduate certificate and master’s in biomedical informatics from DMICE. His career transitioned from clinical practice at Legacy Health to full-time academic faculty in informatics.

Research Interests: Focus areas include clinician decision-making, EHR usability, patient safety, and simulation-based training. He co-developed ONC’s SAFER guides and pioneered eye-tracking studies to analyze EHR interactions. Current projects explore medical scribe workflow impacts, EHR-related burnout reduction, and interprofessional ICU rounding strategies.

Publications Trends: Over 50 peer-reviewed articles span EHR design, clinical decision support, simulation research, and informatics education. Recent work addresses scribe ethics, pandemic-era clinician retraining, and latent safety issues in EHR workflows.
