Vishal Singh is an Associate Professor in the Department of Nutritional Sciences at Penn State University, affiliated with the Penn State Cancer Institute, Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences, and One Health Microbiome Center. His work focuses on the interplay between gut microbiota, inflammation, and metabolic diseases.
- Key Affiliations: Penn State Cancer Institute (Mechanisms of Carcinogenesis), Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences
Research Interests: Vishal’s research spans gut microbiome dynamics, mucosal immunity, and diet-induced inflammation. He explores how microbiota interact with host physiology in conditions like inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), atherosclerosis, and diabetes. His projects include synthetic microbiota engineering and metabolomic profiling.
Grants & Projects: Currently leads a National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases-funded study (2023–2026) on processed diets, gut microbiota, and interferon-linked mucosal immunity in IBD onset.
Scientific Contributions: With 79 research outputs and an h-index of 28, his work has been cited over 3,298 times. Recent publications in Nature, Cell Host and Microbe, and mBio highlight his focus on bile acid metabolism, microbiome engineering, and metabolic disease interventions.
