Dr. Eugene Chang is a Professor in the Department of Medicine-Gastroenterology at the University of Chicago, leading the Chang Lab. His research focuses on the role of intestinal microbiota in human health and disease, particularly inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), metabolic disorders, and autoimmune conditions. The lab employs advanced techniques such as microbial analysis, gnotobiotic mouse models, and bioinformatics to study host-microbiome interactions.
- Research Interests: Microbiome dynamics, gut inflammation, mucosal immunity, diet-microbiome interactions, and host-microbiome coevolution.
- Awards:
- 2014 Takeda Distinguished Scientist Award
- 2013 AGA Outstanding Mentorship Award
- NIH Merit Award (2008–2018)
Key grants include NIH-funded projects on microbiota in Parkinson's disease, metabolic syndrome, and IBD pathogenesis. His work emphasizes translational applications, such as microbiome-based diagnostics and therapies.
Lab activities are centered at the University of Chicago, with collaborations in microbiology, immunology, and clinical gastroenterology. The lab also maintains a dedicated website: Chang Lab.
