Virginie Nazabal is a CNRS Research Professor and Director of Research at the Institute of Chemical Sciences of Rennes (ISCR), University of Rennes 1, France. She leads the Glasses and Ceramics Team and manages the Raman spectroscopy platform at ScanMAT UMS. Her research focuses on chalcogenide glasses, mid-IR optical sensors, and photonic materials. She has held roles at CNRS since 2001, including a postdoctoral fellowship at Japan’s NIMS (2000–2001).
Her PhD in Solid State Chemistry (1999, University of Bordeaux) laid the foundation for her work in materials science. Key research areas include rare earth-doped chalcogenides for CO₂ sensing and mid-IR luminescence. She collaborates with institutions like CIMAP, FOTON, and international partners. Awards include the CNRS Bronze Medal (2010) and Pollutec-Ademe Award (2011).
Her projects address environmental monitoring (e.g., CO₂ sensors funded by ADEME/ANR) and advanced photonic devices. She contributed to national/international initiatives like COST Action MP1401 on fiber lasers.
