Virginie Douglas is a Senior Lecturer HDR at the University of Rouen Normandy, affiliated with the ERIAC (Research Unit on Children's and Adolescent Literature) and the UFR Letters and Human Sciences. Her academic career spans over two decades with a focus on British Children's Literature, Young Adult Novels, and Translation Studies. She holds a Doctorate (2001) and HDR (2018) from Parisian institutions.
Her research explores themes like subversion in non-realist fiction, translation challenges in children's literature, and the evolution of fantasy genres. Notable works include studies on Roald Dahl, Terry Pratchett, and the interplay between literature and media adaptation.
Dr. Douglas has organized major international conferences such as the 2013 Retranslating Children’s Literature colloquium and co-edited volumes on family narratives and translation practices. She actively contributes to pedagogical initiatives, including training sessions for educators on using literature in classrooms.
Her awards include the 2003 Critics' Prize for work on Victorian children's literature. She supervises numerous doctoral theses and serves on committees for prestigious journals and academic associations like the IRSCL.
