Virginia Slachman is a Lecturer in the College Writing Program at Washington University. She holds a PhD from the University of Cincinnati and has over twenty years of experience as a professor of creative writing and literature. Her academic work integrates interdisciplinary exploration, including courses like 'College Writing: Dreams & Nightmares,' which examines themes such as psychology, neuroscience, and societal structures through literary and theoretical lenses.
Her creative output includes three poetry collections, a novel, and the memoir Many Brave Hearts, which chronicles her family's PTSD struggles and was selected for Ridley Scott's 'Launch Pad' film competition. Her poetry has been published in U.S. and U.K. journals/anthologies, and she served as poetry editor of the Aspen Anthology and associate director of the Aspen Writers Conference. Her recent Bluegrass horse racing series novels (Betrayed in the Bluegrass, Beast in the Bluegrass) blend thriller elements with equestrian themes, praised by industry experts like Adrian Beaumont.
Slachman’s honors include Pushcart Prize nominations and fellowships. She also practices EAL and Reiki, insights from which inform her blog D & Me, exploring human-horse relationships and transformative journeys. Her work bridges academic writing instruction with creative literary production, emphasizing narrative’s power to interrogate societal and personal boundaries.
