Vinzenz Koning is Assistant Professor in Sustainable Energy Supply Systems at Utrecht University's Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development. His research develops computational models to analyze energy transitions and decarbonization pathways.
Research focuses on three interconnected areas: 1) Behavioral decision-making in energy system models, 2) Green hydrogen's role in future energy infrastructures, and 3) Interdependencies between materials production and energy systems. Uses optimization models, agent-based simulations, and machine learning approaches.
Publication portfolio spans energy system modeling, electrolyzer cost and performance analysis, industrial decarbonization strategies, and renewable integration challenges. Recent work advances methods for resilience assessment in energy systems and spatial analysis of mobility energy patterns.
Teaches energy systems analysis and sustainability transitions. Participates in Utrecht University's Center for Complex Systems Studies and contributes to national research networks on low-carbon energy systems.
