Dr. Jing Hu is an Assistant Professor in Environmental Sciences at Utrecht University's Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development. Her research focuses on modeling energy systems transitions toward net-zero emissions under socioeconomic and hydroclimatic changes, emphasizing synergies between energy transitions and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). She holds a PhD from Utrecht University (2019) and leads courses like Energy Systems Modelling (GEO4-2515), teaching cost-benefit and uncertainty analysis.
Her research integrates climate impacts into decarbonization pathways, emphasizing resilience against extreme weather events affecting energy infrastructure. She employs cross-scale modeling from global to micro-systems, including global integrated assessment models and regional energy system optimization. Key projects include the NWO-funded PhD trajectory on renewable integration and EU-funded studies on cogeneration efficiency.
Her work addresses hydropower vulnerability to droughts, coal phaseout health co-benefits in China, and solar PV forecasting. She has secured grants from NWO and the European Commission. Current research also explores energy-water-land nexus interactions and portfolio theory for renewable deployment.
