Wen Liu is an Assistant Professor at Utrecht University's Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development in the Energy & Resources group. Her research develops methodologies for integrated assessment of geo-resources, focusing on geothermal systems and thermal storage for sustainable heating transitions.
Liu specializes in techno-economic-environmental analysis of seasonal thermal storage, solar heating integration, and decarbonization pathways for district heating. Her work examines underground thermal applications in built environments and develops optimization strategies for low-carbon energy systems under uncertainty.
As Assistant Editor for the journal Energy, she contributes to scholarly communication in energy research. Liu coordinates the master's course 'Energy in the Context of Sustainability' and supervises student research on renewable integration challenges.
