Vinod Sarin is a Research Professor affiliated with Boston University's Materials Science & Engineering and Mechanical Engineering departments. His research focuses on advanced materials and coatings, including vapor deposition techniques, surface modification, and ceramic composites. He leads the Surface Modification Laboratory, specializing in CVD, PVD, and diamond coatings, emphasizing structure-property correlations of thin films and ceramic consolidation processes.
Education: ScD from MIT. He has published over 100 papers, edited 10+ books, and holds 80+ patents. He has served as a visiting professor internationally and consults for multinational organizations. His work addresses energy, photonic, and structural applications, with notable contributions to transparent optical ceramics and environmental barrier coatings (EBCs).
Publications span advanced materials synthesis, coating stability under corrosive conditions, and thin film characterization. His research integrates theoretical modeling with experimental methods, addressing challenges in gas turbine components and scintillator materials. He collaborates globally, contributing to conferences like the International Conference on the Science of Hard Materials.
