Vincenzo Ortoleva is a Full Professor of Greek and Latin Philology at the University of Catania, Department of Humanities. He also serves on the Teaching Board of the PhD in 'Philology and History of the Ancient World' at Sapienza University of Rome since 2021, an institution ranked 1st in the world in 'Classics & Ancient History' (QS Ranking 2025).
His research interests include Classical Philology, Textual Criticism, Lexicography, Manuscript Traditions, and Ancient Commentaries. He leads the research center Onomastikón. Studies in Greek and Latin Lexicography and coordinates seminars on Greek and Latin textual criticism. He has contributed significantly to the study of Latin texts, particularly through his award-winning work on Vegezio Renato’s Mulomedicina.
He has coordinated national research projects (CNR, FIRB, PRIN) and holds leadership roles in academic publishing as Editor-in-Chief of Commentaria Classica (ANVUR A-class journal). He has also served on the National Scientific Qualification (ASN) committee for Latin language and literature (2018–2020).

Ortoleva has advised several students on their theses, particularly in areas related to Latin-Greek glossaries and Christian Latin texts. He is actively involved in PhD training and academic governance. His research center and seminars continue to promote advanced studies in classical philology.
