Professor Vincent OOI is an Assistant Professor of Law at the Yong Pung How School of Law, Singapore Management University (SMU), and a Lee Kong Chian Fellow. He holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge (2023) and an MA in Jurisprudence from the University of Oxford (2020), and is an Advocate and Solicitor in Singapore. His research focuses on Tax Law, Equity and Trusts, and emerging issues in digital asset taxation and automation policy. He has held roles including Deputy Director of the Centre for Commercial Law in Asia and Rapporteur at the International Law Association.
Research interests span cross-border tax treaties, crypto taxation frameworks, and automation’s socio-economic impacts. His work bridges traditional legal principles with modern challenges like blockchain and the Metaverse. He has published extensively, including in British Tax Review, Capital Markets Law Journal, and Halsbury’s Laws of Singapore.
He teaches courses on Tax Law, Equity & Trusts, and Private Wealth Law. Awards include the Most Promising Teacher Award and MOE-START Scholarship. He actively contributes to legal reform through editorships, including the Oxford University Undergraduate Law Journal, and advises on tax policy for organizations like the United Nations.
His professional engagements include consulting roles at ZICO Insights Law LLC and the Centre for Cross-Border Commercial Law in Asia. He leads research on tax avoidance, ESG investing, and regulatory challenges in digital economies, emphasizing practical solutions for policy-makers and practitioners.
