Professor Vincent Lam is the Professor of Surgery and Head of the Department of Clinical Medicine at Macquarie University. He is a consultant Hepatobiliary, Pancreatic, and Transplant surgeon at Westmead Hospital, holding leadership roles in surgical training and professional organizations. His clinical expertise spans minimally invasive surgery, robotic hepatobiliary procedures, and surgical management of liver, pancreatic, and bile duct cancers.
Education: MBBS (University of Sydney, 1999), MS (2006), DClinSurg (2013). Research focuses on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) prognosis, surgical outcomes, and translational oncology. He leads projects like the Fred Stephens Fellowship in Colorectal Surgery (2021–2030).
Research Interests: Optimizing surgical techniques for liver/pancreatic cancers, developing prognostic models (e.g., TBS-based scores), and investigating biomarkers for recurrence prediction. Key contributions include the Australia-first robotic cholecystectomy (2014) and machine learning models for postoperative complications.
Awarded the 1992 Australian Students Prize for Excellence. Active in surgical education, serving as Deputy Chair of the Medical Staff Council at Westmead Hospital and training supervisor for the NSW General Surgery Board.
