Dr. Vincent Dietemann is a Senior Scientist leading the pathology team at the Swiss Bee Research Center (Agroscope, Bern) and serves as a Privat-Docent at the University of Lausanne's Faculty of Biology and Medicine. His research focuses on honey bee health, investigating environmental, management, and pathogen impacts on colony well-being. Key collaborations include work with Zhejiang University (China), the University of Pretoria (South Africa), and Halle University (Germany).
Education:
- PhD (2002): Würzburg University, Germany (Supervisor: Prof. B. Hölldobler) – Evolution of social regulation in ants
- M.Sc. (1994): Paris 13 University, France (Supervisor: Dr. C. Peeters) – Insect behavior
Research Interests: Honey bee pathology, environmental microbiology, and host-parasite interactions, with emphasis on pathogens like Melissococcus plutonius and Varroa destructor. His work bridges fundamental science and applied beekeeping solutions, addressing colony health through genomic, ecological, and management approaches.
Key Projects:
- Development of the COLOSS BEEBOOK for standardized honey bee research methods
- Genomic studies of honey bee-associated bacteria and mites
- Agroecological strategies to improve colony survival
Labs/Teams: Swiss Bee Research Center (Agroscope), collaborations with COLOSS global network and international institutions.
