Geoffrey R. Williams is an Associate Professor and Graduate Program Officer (Bee Health & Management) in the Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology at Auburn University's College of Agriculture. His role includes overseeing graduate training and research in honeybee health and management. He is based at 301 Funchess Hall, Auburn University, AL 36849.
Dr. Williams' research focuses on honeybee health, parasitic mite management (e.g., Varroa destructor and Tropilaelaps mercedesae), pesticide impacts on pollinators, and wildflower pollinator attractiveness. His work bridges laboratory studies, field experiments, and large-scale surveys to understand stressors affecting bees and develop sustainable management strategies.
Key research themes include:
- Parasite-pesticide interactions in bees
- Neonicotinoid insecticide effects on honeybee physiology
- Invasive species control (e.g., Chinese tallow, small hive beetles)
- Standardized methods for colony health assessment
- National colony loss surveys
His publications analyze over 15 years of data on US beekeeping trends, pesticide toxicity, and mite control strategies. He collaborates with the Bee Informed Partnership and contributes to global entomology networks like COLOSS.
Dr. Williams advises graduate students and has authored/co-authored over 80 papers. His work is funded by USDA grants and industry partnerships focused on pollinator conservation and apicultural innovation.
