Vincent Blok

Vincent Blok is a Professor in Philosophy of Technology and Responsible Innovation at Wageningen University & Research (The Netherlands) and holds a concurrent position as Professor in Philosophy of Data Science and AI at Erasmus University Rotterdam. He serves as Scientific Director of the 4TU Centre for Ethics of Technology, a collaboration of the Netherlands’ four technical universities. His work bridges philosophy, ethics, and technology, focusing on disruptive technologies’ societal and ontological implications.

Research Interests: Blok explores ethical, legal, and social aspects (ELSA) of AI; biomimetic technology; sustainability; and the philosophical underpinnings of innovation. His books include Ernst Jünger’s Philosophy of Technology, Heidegger’s Concept of Philosophical Method, and The Critique of Management, alongside over 100 articles in journals like Science, Philosophy & Technology, and Environmental Values.

Projects: Leads NWO-funded projects on AI in sustainable food systems and ethics of disruptive technologies. Develops tools like the ELSA Scan for responsible AI in agri-food sectors.

Labs/Teams: Directs the 4TU Centre for Ethics of Technology, fostering interdisciplinary research on technology ethics.
