Vilmaris Quiñones Cardona, MD, MPH, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at Drexel University College of Medicine and Program Director of the Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Fellowship at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children. She specializes in neonatal care and ECMO, leading quality improvement initiatives in NICUs and advancing clinical research in HIE and ECMO-associated complications.
Education: MD from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine; MPH in Community-Oriented Primary Care and BS in Biology from George Washington University.
Research focuses on ECMO optimization, antibiotic stewardship, and neurodevelopmental outcomes. She co-developed the NICU I-PASS handoff curriculum and leads national neonatal bootcamp standardization efforts. Her work emphasizes ECMO inflammation reduction and ECMO as a platform for ammonia removal in metabolic disorders.
Over 30 peer-reviewed publications and presentations at major conferences like ELSO and PAS. Awards include the 2023 Al Dia Top Doctor Award and multiple teaching accolades. Active in professional organizations including AAP and ELSO.
