Viktor Zöldi is a Postdoctoral researcher at the University of Helsinki's Faculty of Biological and Environmental Sciences, specifically within the Organismal and Evolutionary Biology Research Programme and Helsinki One Health (HOH) initiative. He works on the Helsinki Urban Rat Project, focusing on urban rodent ecology and disease transmission dynamics.
His research interests span multiple areas of ecology and disease transmission, with primary focus on:
- Ecology and Evolutionary Biology
- Disease Ecology
- Epidemiology
- Parasitology
- Rodent-borne Diseases
- Integrated Pest Management
Zöldi's publication history shows a strong emphasis on tick-borne diseases, particularly tick-borne encephalitis in Central and Eastern Europe, with numerous studies conducted in Hungary. His more recent work has shifted toward urban rat ecology in Helsinki, examining pathogens carried by urban rat populations. His research combines field studies with laboratory analysis to understand disease transmission dynamics between wildlife, vectors, and humans.
He is actively involved in three major research projects:
- TSR Tarja Sironen (2024-2026): Funded by Työsuojelurahasto, focusing on occupational safety aspects of urban rat management
- Urban rat as a model for disease ecology (2023-2027): Academy of Finland-funded project examining urban rat ecology
- Pathogens carried by urban rats in Helsinki - Campylobacter spp. (2019-present): Collaborative project with Finnish veterinary and medical foundations
