Dr. Viktor Hlukhyy is a Group Leader at the Chair of Inorganic Chemistry with Focus on Novel Materials at Technische Universität München (TU Munich). His research focuses on intermetallic phases, particularly exploring polar intermetallic compounds with transition metal layers or 1-D chains as potential superconducting materials. He employs advanced methods such as high-temperature synthesis, X-ray diffraction, magnetic measurements, and density functional theory (DFT) calculations to study structural, electronic, and magnetic properties.
His group investigates structure-property relationships in materials, aiming to develop new applicable materials for energy storage and conversion. Key methods include arc-melting, flux synthesis, and electronic band-structure calculations using the TB-LMTO-ASA method. Former advisees include M.Sc. Thomas Braun and M.Sc. Nazar Zaremba (DAAD Fellowship).
Dr. Hlukhyy’s work spans intermetallic clusters (e.g., Zintl ions), clathrate structures, and electrocatalytic materials for oxygen evolution reactions. His research highlights include the synthesis of novel germanium-rich compounds and the design of calcium-iron-germanium-based electrocatalysts. He holds a position at TU Munich’s Garching campus and oversees a group focused on advancing inorganic chemistry and materials innovation.
