Vikki Howarth is a Lecturer in Adult Nursing at Middlesex University, working within the Department of Adult, Child & Midwifery under the Faculty of Health, Social Care and Education. She transitioned to academia 2.5 years ago following an extensive clinical career in Critical Care Nursing, where she achieved the unique distinction of becoming the UK's only Nurse Clinical Lead for Organ Donation.
Her academic qualifications include:
- Master's degree (research focused on Intensive Care Nurses' role in organ donation)
- Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCert in HE)
Her primary research interests encompass:
- Care of the Deteriorating Patient
- Advanced Resuscitation and Stabilisation of Critically Ill Patients
- End-of-Life Care and Organ Donation Systems
In her academic capacity, she serves as module and cohort lead for the Student Nursing Associate programme, teaching practice modules and year 2 science while maintaining close clinical partnerships. She also advises Nursing Associate and BSc students, teaches postgraduate Intensive Care courses, and conducts Resuscitation Council ILS training.
