Dr. Vikas Khetan is a Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry (SMD), leading the ocular oncology service at the Flaum Eye Institute. He specializes in treating intraocular tumors, pediatric and adult retina diseases, and ocular genetics, particularly retinoblastoma. His academic roles include the Dr. Mina M. Chung Professorship and joint credentials with the Cancer Center.
Dr. Khetan completed his MBBS at JSS Medical College (India) and advanced training in ophthalmology at Kasturba Medical College. He holds fellowships from prestigious institutions, including Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Kids (pediatric retinoblastoma) and Wills Eye Hospital (ocular genetics). His research focuses on retinoblastoma genetics, tumor biology, and global oncology outcomes, with over 100 peer-reviewed publications.
His work spans international collaborations, analyzing treatment success and metastasis risks across 153 countries. He actively contributes to professional societies like the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology and the Asia Pacific Society of Ocular Oncology and Pathology.
Dr. Khetan’s clinical expertise includes retina surgeries, gene therapy applications, and managing complex cases like choroidal melanoma and tubercular uveitis. He emphasizes multidisciplinary care and has pioneered guidelines for ocular oncology during pandemics.
