Vijay Menon is an Associate Research Scientist in Radiobiology at Yale School of Medicine. His research focuses on hematopoiesis, DNA damage repair mechanisms, and cellular biology, with a particular emphasis on erythropoiesis regulation, mitochondrial function, and stem cell quiescence. Collaborations include work with Douglas E. Brash, PhD, and other leading researchers in the field.
Key research areas include the molecular mechanisms underlying β-thalassemia, the role of CDKN1a (p21) in erythroid apoptosis, and the development of novel platinum-based anticancer agents. Menon’s work integrates experimental techniques such as next-generation sequencing, flow cytometry, and confocal imaging to study hematopoietic stem cells and their microenvironments.
His publications highlight a trend toward understanding cellular responses to DNA damage, mitochondrial regulation in disease, and therapeutic strategies targeting cancer and blood disorders. Recent work explores CRISPR-based chemo-genomic interactions and the detection of low-frequency mutations in skin cells exposed to UV radiation.
Menon’s contributions span interdisciplinary collaborations, bridging molecular biology, pharmacology, and clinical applications. He actively publishes in top-tier journals such as Cell Stem Cell, Blood Advances, and Redox Biology, reflecting his commitment to advancing translational research in hematology and oncology.
