Victoria Sakhnini is an Associate Professor in the School of Computer Science at the University of Waterloo and serves as Director of Software Engineering. Her work focuses on teaching methodologies, particularly fostering independent and critical thinking among students. She emphasizes creating dynamic classroom environments where curiosity and exploration thrive.
Her research interests span requirements elicitation techniques, creativity enhancement in education, and software engineering pedagogy. Notably, she explores group dynamics in requirements gathering and categorizes functional requirements into 'Scope Determined (D)' and 'Scope Determining (G)' types. Recent publications (2023) highlight her contributions to understanding optimal group sizes and collaborative approaches in requirements elicitation.
Victoria’s articles reflect a sustained focus on improving educational practices and software design processes. Earlier work (2017–2010) investigated creativity techniques like EPMCreate in enhancing requirements elicitation for web development. Her 2008 and 2006 studies address reducing abstraction in high school computer science education and qualitative research methods in teaching.
She holds a PhD and is a licensed Professional Engineer (PEng). Her roles include directing the Software Engineering program, overseeing curriculum development, and advocating for student-centered learning approaches.
