Victoria Kiechel is a Professor at American University’s School of International Service (SIS), specializing in Global Environmental Politics. She holds degrees from Harvard Graduate School of Design (M. Arch), Pembroke College, Oxford (M.Phil./B.A./M.A. via Rhodes Scholarship), and Yale College (B.A.). Combining academia with professional practice, she is a licensed architect (AIA) and LEED AP certified, working at The Cadmus Group LLC as an environmental consultant.
Her teaching integrates real-world projects in sustainable design, such as courses on environmental sustainability and global health, climate-resilient cities, and LEED training. She has led research for the Appalachian Regional Commission, advised the U.S. EPA’s ENERGY STAR program as Higher Education sector lead, and contributed to LEED v.3 development. Notably, she was the first recipient of AU’s Most Innovative Green Teacher of the Year award.
Her professional work spans sustainability consulting for institutions like the Smithsonian, energy benchmarking, and curriculum development in energy efficiency. Current courses (Fall 2024/Spring 2025) focus on global environmental politics, climate resilience, and service-learning projects.
