Garrett Graddy-Lovelace is an Associate Professor at American University's School of International Service (SIS), where she also serves as Associate Director of the Center for Environment, Community & Equity and Faculty Advisor for the Antiracist Research & Policy Center. Her work focuses on agricultural policy, agrarian geography, and climate justice, with emphases on U.S. farm policy reform, agroecology, and global food systems. She co-founded the Agroecology Research-Action Collective and leads initiatives like the 'Disparity to Parity' farm justice project.
Education: Ph.D. in Geography (University of Kentucky), M.A. in Theological Studies (Harvard Divinity School), B.A. in Political Science (Yale University). Her forthcoming book, The Power of Seeds & Agricultural Biodiversity Governance, explores seed sovereignty and global policy frameworks. She has been awarded multiple accolades, including the inaugural AAG Provost Associate Professor title and SIS Innovative Teaching Award (2024).
Graddy-Lovelace’s research integrates community-based action, policy analysis, and decolonial theory. She advises grassroots groups on the Farm Bill and collaborates internationally on agroecology advocacy. Recent grants include leadership roles in the NSF RECIPES project (food systems resilience) and a USDA-funded initiative on agroecology policy.
