Victoria Ford Smith is an Associate Professor in the Department of English at the University of Connecticut, part of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. She joined UConn in 2012 after roles at Rice University and the Houston Community College Writing Center. Her research focuses on children’s literature, young adult literature, and British literary culture of the 19th and 20th centuries. She explores themes like child agency, collaborative authorship, and material culture.
Education:
- Ph.D. in English (2010), Rice University (with a certificate in Women, Gender, and Sexuality)

- B.A. in Literature and Print Journalism (summa cum laude, 2003), American University
Research and Publications: Her book Between Generations (2017) examines collaborative authorship in children’s literature. Recent work includes articles on Victorian nonsense poetry, neo-Victorian adaptations, and child-produced culture. She co-hosts The Children’s Table Podcast, exploring children’s literature trends.
