Michelle Beissel Heath is a Professor and Department Chair in the Department of English at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. Her expertise spans children’s literature and British literature of the long nineteenth century, with a focus on childhood studies examining intersections of literature, history, play, citizenship, and empire. She holds a Ph.D. in English from George Washington University (2008), an M.A. from the University of Maine (2001), and a B.A. in English, History, and Spanish from Gustavus Adolphus College (1999).
Her research explores themes such as neo-Victorian fiction, the role of play in cultural narratives, and the socio-political dimensions of childhood representation. Notable works include Nineteenth-Century Fictions of Childhood and the Politics of Play (2018) and contributions to journals like Children’s Literature and Journal of the History of Childhood and Youth.
