Victoria Ferentinou is an Assistant Professor at the University of Ioannina, specializing in the Theory and History of Art within the Department of Visual Arts and Art Sciences. Her research and teaching focus on modernism, surrealism, feminist theory, and the intersection of occultism with avant-garde art.
Education:
- Graduate of the Department of History and Archaeology, University of Ioannina
- Postgraduate studies at University College London and University of Essex
- PhD in History and Theory of Art from the University of Essex (2007)
Her research explores surrealist engagement with occultism, ecocritical frameworks in art history, and feminist reinterpretations of modernist movements. She has published extensively in journals like n.paradoxa and Aries, and co-edited the seminal volume Surrealism, Occultism and Politics (Routledge, 2017).
Recent publications analyze alchemical symbolism in surrealist works, re-enchantment in modern art, and gender politics in surrealist iconography. She organized the 2018 Visual Ecotopias symposium and held a Harvard fellowship in 2019-2020.
