Victoria Dutch serves as a Senior Research Associate in the School of Environmental Sciences at the University of East Anglia and is a member of the Centre for Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences. She currently leads postdoctoral research on the EU Horizon Greenfeedback project investigating greenhouse gas fluxes in the Arctic sea-ice zone through experimental work in the Roland von Glasow Air Sea Ice Chamber and synthesis of field data.
Her educational background includes:
- PhD in Seasonal snow and wintertime carbon emissions in Arctic shrub tundra (Northumbria University, 2023)
- MSc in Polar and Alpine Change (University of Sheffield, 2020)
- BSc in Environmental Sciences (University of East Anglia, 2018)
Dr. Dutch's research centers on Arctic carbon dynamics with expertise in greenhouse gas fluxes under snow and sea ice, permafrost modeling, and climate system interactions. Her work integrates land surface modeling, field measurements, and experimental chamber studies to address critical knowledge gaps in polar climate feedback mechanisms. She also contributes to science communication through research on accessible academic event formats.
Her recent publications demonstrate consistent focus on Arctic climate processes, with emerging work connecting sea ice dynamics to ocean carbon cycling and advancing modeling techniques for snow-permafrost systems. Key trends show increasing interdisciplinary collaboration across atmospheric science, oceanography, and ecology.
As Principal Investigator for the British Antarctic Survey-funded project Trial of Low-Cost Sensors for the measurement of Arctic Carbon Fluxes (2024-2025), she develops innovative field measurement approaches. She previously served in leadership roles with the UK Polar Network as Secretary (2022-2023) and Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Officer (2020-2022).
Dr. Dutch conducts experimental research in the Roland von Glasow Air Sea Ice Chamber and collaborates with international networks including the British Antarctic Survey and Northumbria University. Her work supports global climate modeling efforts through improved representation of polar processes in Earth system models.
