Stefanie Arndt

Stefanie Arndt is a sea-ice physicist at the Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI) in Germany, specializing in polar research with focus on snow-sea ice interactions in Arctic and Antarctic regions. She actively contributes to major international expeditions including MOSAiC, the largest Arctic research expedition in history.

Her research examines how snow cover governs sea ice albedo and thermodynamic growth processes, using field measurements and satellite remote sensing to address measurement uncertainties. Key areas include sea ice thickness-mass balance relationships, energy budgets, ice-ocean dynamics, and seasonal snow transformations affecting climate-relevant processes.

As part of AWI's Sea Ice Physics research group, she conducts fieldwork on snow properties and participates in science communication through media engagements and policy forums including the Falling Walls Summit and European Polar Science Week.
