Victor Yang

Victor Yang is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Toronto Metropolitan University, holding cross-appointments as Adjunct Professor in Medical Physics at the same institution and Associate Professor in the Institute of Medical Science and Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto. He also serves as a Staff Neurosurgeon at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and Senior Scientist in Brain Sciences and Physical Sciences at Sunnybrook Research Institute. As Canada Research Chair in Bioengineering and Biophotonics (Tier II), his work bridges optical technologies with clinical surgical practices.

Dr. Yang holds a BASc in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Toronto (1997), MEng in Electrical and Computer Engineering (1998), and MD-PhD from the University of Toronto (MD 2006, PhD in Medical Biophysics 2004 for work on Doppler Optical Coherence Tomography). His research focuses on advancing optical imaging technologies like OCT for surgical navigation, medical robotics, and therapies for stroke, carotid disease, and neurosurgical applications.

His research portfolio includes innovations in Doppler OCT for vascular imaging, laser ablation systems, and real-time surgical guidance tools. Recent publications emphasize translational applications such as stroke patient outcomes in thrombectomy and spinal navigation accuracy.

Recognitions include the Canada Research Chair (2013-2018), Early Researcher Award (2009), and teaching excellence awards. His work spans interdisciplinary collaborations between engineering, medicine, and photonics.
