Vicki Schultz is the Ford Foundation Professor of Law and Social Sciences at Yale Law School. She holds a J.D. from Harvard Law School and a B.A. from the University of Texas. Her research explores antidiscrimination law, workplace equality, and gender dynamics, with a focus on sexual harassment, family law, and the sociology of work. She directs the Workplace Theory and Policy Workshop and leads the Work and Welfare interdisciplinary research group at Yale.
Schultz's research interests center on redefining legal frameworks for discrimination and harassment. Key areas include:
- The institutional dynamics of identity formation in antidiscrimination law
- Gendered power structures in workplaces
- Intersections of labor law, family law, and social policy
- Feminist critiques of traditional legal doctrines
Her publications demonstrate a consistent focus on gender justice in labor contexts, evolving from foundational critiques of sexual harassment law to contemporary analyses of work-life policies. Recent work engages with #MeToo-era legal reforms and pandemic-related workplace inequities.
Schultz has received significant recognition, including:
- Evelyn Green Davis Fellowship (Radcliffe Institute, Harvard)
- Fellowship at Stanford's Center for Advanced Behavioral Science
- Whitney Humanities Center Fellowship at Yale
- Leadership roles in the Association of American Law Schools and Law & Society Association
She founded and chairs Yale's Workplace Theory and Policy Workshop, which examines evolving labor landscapes. As former head of the Work and Welfare research group, she coordinated interdisciplinary scholarship on inequality across social welfare systems. She previously served as a trial attorney in the DOJ Civil Rights Division and taught at Harvard Law School, UCLA Law, and the University of Wisconsin.
