Vicki Losick is an Assistant Professor in the Biology Department at Boston College. Her research focuses on understanding the mechanisms of wound-induced polyploidization and its role in tissue repair, using Drosophila as a primary model system.
She holds a Ph.D. from the Tufts University School of Graduate Biomedical Sciences. Her work bridges developmental biology and cell biology, investigating how epithelial tissues maintain integrity and regenerate following injury.
Key research interests include:
- Polyploidization dynamics in response to injury
- Genetic and signaling pathways (e.g., Hippo, JNK, Integrin-Yki) regulating tissue repair
- Age-related changes in wound healing
- Applications of Drosophila models for studying human diseases like Fuchs dystrophy
Her lab’s work has been featured in Science, highlighting their discovery of novel mechanisms linking polyploidy to wound healing efficiency. Current projects aim to uncover how cellular ploidy influences tissue resilience and aging.
