Veronika Darian

Veronika Darian is a Research Associate and former Junior Professor for Theatre Studies with a focus on transculturality and transmediality at the Institute for Theatre Studies, University of Leipzig. She has held academic positions at the Free University of Berlin and Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf, and maintains an international research network including collaborations with Keio University in Tokyo.

Her research focuses on theatrical practices that critically examine power structures while mediating between cultural formations and producing body-related knowledge. She explores how theatre, dance, performance, and film generate socio-cultural effects through detailed analyses of theatrical phenomena.

Darian's scholarly work reveals consistent engagement with transnational and interdisciplinary approaches, examining competing narratives and speaker positions within local, national, and global contexts. Her publications demonstrate expertise in gesture research, foreignness studies, and theatre in societies undergoing transformation.
