Veronica West-Harling

Dr. Veronica West-Harling is an Associate Member of the University of Oxford's History Faculty and a member of Wolfson College. Her research focuses on early medieval Western societies, particularly the transformation from Late Antiquity to the Ottonian period (7th–11th centuries) across Western Europe. She holds academic affiliations with All Souls College (until 2014) and has been involved in administrative roles within universities, including moderating new degrees and examining postgraduate work.

Her research interests span three key areas: Anglo-Saxon church culture, medievalism in contemporary media, and early medieval Italian cultural history. She has led major projects such as the AHRC-funded 'From Byzantine to Ottonian Empires' (2011–2014) and the Marie Curie 'Family, Power, Memory: Female Monasticism in Italy' (2015–2017), resulting in monographs and databases like MedItaNunC. Her work explores intersections between gender, power, and cultural identity in medieval Italy.
