Veronica Smith is a Lecturer at the University of New South Wales Business School, where she joined in May 2022 as Course Coordinator for COMM1170 Organisational Resources in the Bachelor of Commerce Integrated First Year Program. She currently serves as Program Director for the myBCom and myMCom programs, which support Bachelor and Master of Commerce students in developing professional skills throughout their degrees.
Her research focuses on sustainability accounting and reporting, with particular expertise in environmental reporting, social and environmental reporting, and the effects of Chinese foreign direct investment on voluntary disclosure practices in Australian corporations. Her work bridges accounting practices with broader sustainability concerns and corporate governance.
Dr. Smith's research output demonstrates a consistent focus on accountability mechanisms in corporate reporting, particularly examining how shareholder engagement with CSR reports influences corporate behavior. Her publications reflect an interdisciplinary approach connecting accounting practices with social responsibility frameworks.
She has received recognition through publication in reputable journals such as Meditari Accountancy Research, demonstrating the academic rigor and relevance of her work in the field of sustainability accounting.
With over 20 years of experience teaching in Australian tertiary institutions, Dr. Smith has developed expertise in both undergraduate and postgraduate education across multiple disciplines including Financial Accounting, Corporate Finance, Business Communication, Global Economics, and Organisational Behavior. She has a strong interest in cross-disciplinary teaching approaches that enhance student employability.
