Dr. Veronica Jacome is an Assistant Professor in Geography, Environment and Urban Studies at Temple University's College of Liberal Arts. With a PhD from UC Berkeley's Energy and Resources Group and BS in Engineering Physics from University of Illinois, she integrates physics training with critical social theory.
Her research examines energy infrastructure through political economy and Science & Technology Studies lenses, particularly how electric grids shape social relations and material conditions. Current projects compare grid systems in the US (Bay Area), Ghana (Accra), and Tanzania, investigating reliability disparities and energy justice dimensions through ethnography and historical analysis.
Publications explore electricity service unreliability, prepaid metering impacts, and equity in energy transitions. She is authoring a book on US electrification history titled 'Hooked: Electrification and the Making of the Modern Consumer'.
