Veronica Austin is a PhD Researcher at the Cambridge Institute for Music Therapy Research within the University of Cambridge's Faculty of Arts, Humanities, Education and Social Sciences and the Cambridge School of Creative Industries. Her thesis investigates music therapy assessment and evaluation procedures for young people with intellectual disabilities in UK schools, supervised by Prof Helen Odell-Miller and Prof Amelia Oldfield. She holds a PG Dip in Professional Studies in Education, an MA in Music Therapy, and a Diploma in Music Therapy.
Her research focuses on music therapy in educational settings, particularly for individuals with learning disabilities, and assessment methodologies. She has extensive clinical experience as a music therapist and teacher in mainstream and special schools since 1982, including roles at Roehampton University and a project evaluating music therapy in a hospital setting (2013–2015). Her publications contribute to understanding instrumental use in therapy and critical reviews of music therapy literature.
Veronica maintains a private supervision practice in Hampshire and has been involved with Key Changes Music Therapy since 1997. Her work bridges clinical practice, education, and research, emphasizing evidence-based approaches to music therapy in diverse environments.
