Vernon L. Smith is the George L. Argyros Endowed Chair in Finance and Economics at Chapman University, with joint appointments in the Argyros College of Business and Economics and Fowler School of Law. He founded and directs Chapman's Economic Science Institute. Smith completed his BS in electrical engineering at Caltech (1949), MA in economics at University of Kansas (1952), and PhD in economics at Harvard (1955).
His pioneering research in experimental economics examines market mechanisms, human exchange behavior, and institutional design. Key domains include:
