Verity McIntosh is Associate Professor of Virtual and Extended Realities in the Department of ACE – Creative and Cultural Industries at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol). She leads Immersive Arts, a national program fostering inclusive research, funding, and training for over 200 artists working with immersive technologies.
Her research centers on immersive arts and culture, inclusive experience design, policy and human rights in immersive environments, and the use of immersive technology for risk simulation. She collaborates extensively with creative companies, charities, communities, and policymakers to explore ethical and societal dimensions of virtual and extended realities, including the metaverse.
Her work has informed influential policy reports for the NSPCC and the Institution of Engineering and Technology on child safeguarding in immersive tech. These contributions have been recognized in the UK House of Commons, House of Lords, EU Parliament, and the Council of Europe, highlighting the societal impact of her research.
She actively disseminates her insights through global speaking engagements and publications on the creative industries and immersive technology sector.
