Ghislaine Boddington is a Reader in Digital Immersion at the University of Greenwich, within the School of Design and Creative Industries of the Faculty of Law, Arts and Social Sciences. She is an internationally recognized artist, curator, director and presenter specializing in the future human, body responsive technologies and immersive experiences. With over 30 years of experience in the digital arts field, she co-founded and serves as Creative Director of body>data>space, a pioneering interactive creative design collective that has advocated for the living body to be at the heart of the digital debate since the early 1990s.
Her academic and creative work focuses on the blending of virtual and physical bodies, exploring topics including telepresence, biometrics, identity representation, connected body enhancements, digital intimacy, and collective embodiment. She has developed the concept of "The Internet of Bodies" to examine the evolution of our future multi-selves through gesture and sense interfaces, biometrics, augmented realities, and embedded digital body connectivity.
Boddington is an active advocate for diversity and inclusivity, co-founding Women Shift Digital (2012 to present), serving as a Trustee for the Stemettes, and acting as Spokesperson for Deutsche Bank's "Women Entrepreneurs in Social Tech" Accelerator. Her work has been recognized with the IX Immersion Experience Visionary Pioneer Award by the Society for Arts and Technology (SAT) in 2017 and as an Inventor of the Year Finalist in the Tech Inclusive Alliance Awards 2019.
She co-presents bi-weekly as Studio Expert for BBC Digital Planet, the BBC World Service flagship technology and society radio program and podcast. Boddington regularly keynotes internationally, having presented in over 30 countries across arts, academia, creative industries, and corporate sectors. She sits on the editorial board of the Journal AI and Society (Springer) and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
Research Focus and Publications
Boddington's research centers on digital immersion and the convergence of physical and virtual bodies. Her recent work explores embodied intelligence in digital spaces, with particular emphasis on ethical considerations around biometric data usage. Through her concept of "The Internet of Bodies," she examines how gesture interfaces, biometrics, and augmented realities are rapidly blending our virtual and physical selves, pointing to future collective embodiments. Her publications span digital art, human-computer interaction, and digital ethics, with recent works focusing on extended senses, embodying technology, and ethical sustainability in data harvesting.

Professional Activities
Boddington has directed numerous international group creation projects including Butterfly Effect Network (1991–1996), Club Research (1995–1997), CellBytes (2000–2001), skintouchfeel (2002–2006), and Ideasphere (2004–2006). She developed The Weave, an inter-authorship methodology for interdisciplinary co-creation processes that has been adopted by creatives worldwide. As a curator, she has delivered exhibitions and programs for over 30 years, including Gender Mayhem (ICA, 1993-95), Soundworks Exchange (1996-8), and FutureFest programs (2015-18). She has directed immersive performance installations for venues including the Royal National Theatre, Glastonbury, and FutureFest.
Collaborations and Networks
Boddington is a member of Tech London Advocates Women (UK), the Internet of Things Council (UK), digital arts network RAN (France), and the Gabriela Tudor Foundation (Romania). She has worked as Creative Director for Plexal Innovation Centre (2016-17) and for Imogen Heap's blockchain-based Mycelia Platform launch (2017). She regularly mentors creative tech entrepreneurs and has served as Process Lead for Dansathon and Lead Contributor/Mentor for QuestLab series.
