Dr Verity Flower is a Lecturer in Remote Sensing and Natural Hazards at the University of Stirling's Biological and Environmental Sciences college, where she also serves as Programme Director for Environmental Sciences since 2024. She specializes in volcanic eruption analysis using multi-sensor satellite data from NASA, ESA, and JAXA missions.
- PhD in Geology (Volcano Remote Sensing) from Michigan Technological University (2012-2015)
- MSc Applied Meteorology and Climatology from University of Birmingham (2009-2010)
- BSc (Hons) Environmental Hazards from University of Portsmouth (2005-2008)
Her research focuses on:
- Volcanic plume monitoring using satellite-derived datasets
- Developing cross-platform remote sensing techniques for natural disaster analysis
- Climate change impact assessment through long-term lake monitoring systems
She leads ESA-funded research on atmospheric volcanic particle impacts on climate datasets and has extensive field experience in volcanic hazard assessments (Montserrat, Costa Rica, Dominica). As an educator, she:
- Chairs the BES Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee
- Created the VIBE Initiative for inclusive academic integration
- Teaches environmental science programs
