Dr. Verena Reinke is a Lecturer for Special Tasks at the Department of Geography Didactics, Humboldt University of Berlin, within the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. She previously served as a Substitute Professor for Geography Didactics and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt. Her academic roles also include honorary teaching at Jade-Gymnasium Jaderberg and part-time teaching at the University of Osnabrück.
Her research focuses on ESD competency frameworks, teacher training, climate change education, and interdisciplinary teaching methodologies. She has conducted comparative studies on professional competencies of geography teachers and non-formal ESD practitioners, emphasizing climate change adaptation strategies. Her geographical interests span Latin America, Spain, and regions like Iceland and Mongolia, with specific attention to environmental awareness and heritage management.
Key publications include analyses of ESD implementation in schools, climate change pedagogy, and geographical textbook discourse in Brazil and Germany. She co-developed an ESD portal for university lecturers and contributed to pandemic-era geography education studies. Awards include the 2025 Sustainability Award (Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt) and the 2024 Oldenburgische Landschaft Student Award.
Dr. Reinke advises master's theses on topics ranging from sustainable tourism indicators to outdoor clothing industry sustainability. She is actively involved in professional organizations like the HGD (University Association for Geography Didactics) and the International Society for Textbook and Educational Media Research (IGSBi).
