Associate Professor Vera Weisbecker is a leading evolutionary biologist at Flinders University’s College of Science and Engineering. Her work focuses on vertebrate adaptation, particularly Australian marsupials like wombats, kangaroos, and Tassie devils, and birds. She uses 3D skeletal reconstructions and computational statistics to investigate evolutionary processes. Her Bones & Biodiversity lab collaborates with palaeontologists and phylogeneticists in CABAH (Centre of Excellence in Australian Biodiversity and Heritage). Vera co-created the Go Extinct! Megafauna educational game distributed via Deadly Science. She teaches courses like BIOL2712 (Diversity of Life) and BIOL3712 (Integrative Physiology), emphasizing quantitative methods. Media engagements highlight her expertise in Australian wildlife conservation and evolution. Current research includes dingo fence ecology, stick-nest rat conservation, and marsupial cranial evolution.
