Professor Tania Leiman is the Dean of Law and a Professor at Flinders University's College of Business, Government and Law. She holds roles at the Jeff Bleich Centre for Democracy and Disruptive Technologies and the Flinders Legal Centre. Her research focuses on legal implications of emerging technologies like automated vehicles, AI, and blockchain, alongside legal education reform and the future of the legal profession. She has received awards for teaching excellence, including an ALTC citation and AAUT citation. Tania advises on national transport policy (National Transport Commission) and legal tech innovation (ADVI Policy & Risk Group). Her teaching emphasizes clinical legal education and tort law.
Education & Career: Admitted to practice in 1986, she worked in civil litigation before transitioning to academia. She returned part-time to private practice (2010-2011) and now consults on regulatory issues like hyperloop technologies and grey fleet management.
Research Themes: Legal challenges posed by driverless cars, blockchain smart contracts, genomics, and AI. She explores how law adapts to disruptive tech in mobility, healthcare, and professional practice. Recent work addresses wellness in legal education and Gen Z lawyer preparedness.
Contributions: Over 70 research outputs since 2012, including peer-reviewed chapters on legal tech and keynote addresses on cultural agility in law. She co-leads initiatives like the Flinders Legal Centre and sits on national advisory boards for tech law.
