Vera Eory is a Reader in Sustainable Ecosystems at Scotland's Rural College (SRUC), affiliated with the Rural Economy and Environment school. Her research focuses on the socio-economic aspects of sustainable agriculture, emphasizing greenhouse gas (GHG) mitigation strategies, cost-effectiveness analysis of pollution reduction practices, and farmers' perceptions of sustainable practices. She leads interdisciplinary projects addressing agricultural policy, climate change adaptation, and environmental co-benefits of mitigation measures.
Education includes a PhD in Ecological Economics from the University of Edinburgh (2016), an MSc in Ecological Economics (2008), an MBA (2005), and molecular biology degrees (2002). She has supervised multiple PhD students, including projects on income inequality in food systems, soil management in Nepal, and low-carbon farming.
Her work spans over 30 projects funded by bodies like the Scottish Government, UKRI, and the European Commission. Key projects include modeling GHG emissions in Scottish livestock sectors, the South Asian Nitrogen Hub, and climate-neutral farming practices. She received the Green Gown Award (2010) for sustainability contributions.
Vera collaborates with stakeholders to bridge research and practice, contributing to policy briefs and international initiatives like the GenTORE and ClimateXChange programs. Her research addresses global challenges such as carbon budgeting, nutrient management, and sustainable intensification.
